The Third Teacher

Rocky Mountain Reggio aims to support teachers and administrators to develop their beliefs around children and childhood, and supports schools to develop beautiful learning environments that bring their beliefs to life in their classrooms.

Guided by the Reggio Emilia Approach, I aim to design spaces that are...

  • Welcoming & Aesthetically Pleasing

  • Organic

    • Following the development of each child

    • Empowering children to be capable, confident & independent

    • Through play, the environment promotes exploration, connection & collaboration

  • Culturally Representative

    • Focused on relationships, community building & family

  • Natural

    • Bring the outside indoors

  • Abundant in Purposeful Materials

    • Thoughtfully selected & placed to promote inquiry, problem solving & creativity

"The environment should act as an aquarium which reflects the ideas, ethics, attitudes and culture of the people who live in it. This is what we are working towards."

-Loris Malaguzzi

(Founder of the educational philosophy known as the Reggio Emilia Approach)

My name is Logan Zeman and I am an early childhood and elementary educator, as well as the founder of Rocky Mountain Reggio. In 2018, I had the privilege of being a part of the Reggio Emilia International Study Group in Reggio Emilia, Italy. It was there that I found my calling. I observed incredible learning environments where children's interests are followed, where community and culture are cornerstones, and where inquiry and play are at the forefront. While living and teaching in Shanghai, China, I was honored to be a part of a team of educators that shared this passion and philosophy for learning. My colleagues and mentors opened my eyes to the importance of teaching the "whole child" and stepping away from a traditional education model where the teacher is at the front of the room. I became a guide, working side-by-side with children, and found that I could learn as much from them as they could from me. Through observation and documentation, I discovered that children express themselves in many ways, a belief known as The 100 Languages. My educational journey has taken many turns and along the way, I have evolved. From working with children to supporting fellow educators and school administrators, Rocky Mountain Reggio was born. Being form the rocky mountains in the beautiful state of Colorado, USA, nature has always played a role in how I see and interact with the world around me. Light, color, textures, materials and the overall ascetics of a space have a big impact on how humans feel and interact with their environment. When it comes to education, a child's learning environment (known as The Third Teacher) can have a big impact on the child's emotions, peer interactions and how they learn.

Success! Message received.

I am always looking for new and exciting opportunities to support children, educators, administrators and families.
